Testing ScribeFire: Firefox Addon for Bloggers

I have been looking for a blogging-client for Mac for quite awhile now. I came across MarsEdit, Ecto, and Qumana. Problem is, most of them are commercial software (except Qumana). And then I came across ScribeFire, a Firefox addon that acts as a blogging client too.

Basically you just fire up your Firefox (well, I use Firefox as my main browser anyway, so Yay to that) and then press F8 to fire up ScribeFire. You can start blogging right away.

I’ve just tested it today so I won’t say too much for now. However, some of the advantages I could think of is that first, you don’t have to install any other extra application to blog. Second, since it’s a Firefox addon, it will work on both Mac and Windows. And third, whenever you surf the net and get inspired to blog, you can just fire up ScribeFire and blog straight away, while all the links, images, and ideas are still fresh.

In short, I think ScribeFire is gonna be a great blogging tool. We’ll see how it goes. If you want to tryit yourself, you can download it here

UPDATE:
The first few things I noticed right away are:

  1. When uploading images from your computer, choose API instead of FTP, saves you a lot of trouble of setting up FTP account
  2. You can’t set image properties in ScribeFire, so if you want to align your images (you could actually align images. My bad), or insert an alternate text, you have to do it manually. Luckily ScribeFire DOES have a nifty preview feature that lets you see how does your post will look like. I can live with that.
  3. Categories are integrated right into ScribeFire. Oh, I’m using self-hosted Wordpress by the way. So I can just choose and tick whichever categories I want to.
